Don’t
Be Fooled by Food: Remember Eve and Esau!
By Jacob Awagah
It was all because of food. The mess on earth is a food mess.
We are in this life of “the great tribulation” (Revelation 7:14) because of food disobedience; food sin. As written, “for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God,” (Romans
3:23).
As you know all too well than to be told, Adam and Eve CHOSE to eat food God commanded them not to eat.
And immediately, they plunged into
personal and generational nakedness (shame, sheol and shocking affliction) up to this very day. Man was doomed by food.
God our Savior perfectly questioned them in the aftermath: “And
He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” (Genesis 3:11).
Our first ancestors chose to eat the food of
death instead of the food of life, The Life of God!
“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die,” Genesis 2:16-17.
They chose food from the tree of death, instead of food from The Tree of Life!
Many are making the same choice today as our first ancestors did about 6,000 years ago.
Just as in the beginning the serpent deceived and ensnared Eve with food
by his craftiness, so he is doing now at the end of the age.
“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in
Christ.” Corinthians 11:3.
For example, many believers do not fast and pray because of food. Yet there is the pressing need to fast, to pray fervently, now. Many sense The
Holy Spirit’s repeated urging to fast, to pray but they repeatedly fail to do so because of food.
REPENT! Fast and pray as led by The Holy Spirit, “lest there be any fornicator or PROFANE
[Godless, careless] person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright,” (Hebrews 12:16).
Eternal life is our birthright in Christ Jesus. DO NOT sell it for food!
Ask The LORD to help you to fast, to pray. For it is, “‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts,” (Zechariah 4:6).
Isaac means “Laughter.” Isaac was waiting to bless Esau to laugh his way to the bank for the rest of his life and generations. But Esau chose to forego it for one morsel of food!
According to what is written, “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.” (Galatians 4:28).
Here and now, again, God has promised to bless us so much that we will
always be with laughter (Psalm 16:11) in these end times and forever:
“For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My
blessing on your offspring; they will spring up among the grass, like willows by the watercourses.’ One will say, ‘I am The LORD’s’; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; another will write with his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’
and name himself by the name of Israel.” Isaiah 44:3-5.
“For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry
land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts.
‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts.
‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts.
‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says
the Lord of hosts.” Haggai 2:6-9.
Let us be cautioned about ungodly eating: eating too much, eating for convenience and pleasure rather than appropriate, natural hunger. Let us
remember food disobedience, food sins, in the Bible and be warned accordingly.
“Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of
the ages have come,” 1 Corinthians 10:11.
“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might
have hope.” Romans 15:4.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of/from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Esau sold his birthright for one morsel of food.
Rachel craved a particular food (mandrakes) so much as to have let go of a baby-conceiving night with her husband, which God had ordained.
Comparably, Leah was more interested in getting pregnant
than in food. “And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.”
The very same night with Jacob which Rachel exchanged for food, her senior sister and marital rival
secured and conceived.
God was ready to answer a pregnancy prayer that night in Jacob’s marriage. And, Leah, who already had four sons, prayed it and conceived a fifth son! (Rachel had
yet to bear one child with her womb).
“And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.”
“[God] is a rewarder
of those who diligently seek Him,” Hebrews 11:6. No wonder, He readily rewarded Leah who diligently sought Him to get pregnant:
“Now Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and
found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.” But she said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband?
Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?”
And Rachel said, “Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son’s mandrakes.” When Jacob came out of the field in
the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes.”
And he lay with her that night. And God listened to Leah,
and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.” Genesis 30:14-17.
The LORD killed some of the very people He had delivered out of Egypt because they yielded to food craving.
“Now the mixed multitude who were among them YIELDED to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt,
the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”
Then Moses heard the people weeping
throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent; and the anger of The LORD was greatly aroused; Moses also was displeased. Now a wind went out from The LORD, and it brought quail from the sea and left them fluttering near the camp, about
a day’s journey on this side and about a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the ground.
And the people stayed up all that day, all
night, and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers); and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.
But while the meat was still between their
teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of The LORD was aroused against the people, and The LORD struck the people with a very great plague.
So he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because
there they buried the people who had YIELDED to craving,” Numbers 11:4-6,10,31-34.
The LORD hates yielding to craving.
Why are you
opening that food cupboard, that fridge for the umpteenth time today? Why?
A man of God (a prophet) was killed by a lion soon after he disobeyed The LORD by eating bread and drinking water in a place
where he had been sent on a ministry mission at The LORD’s command.
The LORD categorically told him to “not eat bread nor drink water there”. Yet he did, having heeded the blatant
lies of an older prophet and was killed. (See 1 Kings 13:1-30).
Again, food disobediently eaten by Adam and Eve got all mankind into satanic captivity that had to take The PRECIOUS Blood of Christ
to deliver us out of! It was all because of food.
Man and food disobedience is a big deal in The Spirit and the flesh. Let us be warned, more especially in these evil days.
Let us beware of the devil’s food traps. They are often subtle and seemingly harmless. They have greatly increased in these last days. He deceived man with food; he is still doing so today.
There are even foods and beverages by satan in the shops, on the shelves.
Ask The LORD before you buy anything (both food and non-food). Be alert for The Holy Spirit’s alerts.
Don’t be fooled by food into sin or “lagging in diligence” (Romans 12:11).
“Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food…”
Romans 14:20.
Don’t fall because of food.
“Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them,”
1 Corinthians 6:13.
Obey in all things at all times,
“Walking in the fear of The LORD and in the comfort of The Holy Spirit,” Acts 9:31.
A food for thought — and action.
“The LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be
with you. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:22.
“Farewell” Acts 15:29.
