"I Heard These Words in Prayer: 'The Accelerator Has Come!'"

By Demontae Edmonds

I heard these words while in prayer, "The Accelerator has come." I knew instinctively that God was speaking about the person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus declared Him to be the Comforter and Helper. We know the Holy Spirit also serves in other capacities to bring regeneration, deliverance, and healing in the lives of Believers. There are times when He works as an accelerator for God to restore lost time to Believers and move them at an advanced pace into the next season of their destinies.

As soon as the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus, after His baptism by John in the wilderness, we see in Mark 1:12 it says, "And immediately the Spirit driveth Him into the wilderness." The Holy Spirit began to accelerate the call and purposes of God upon Jesus' life. Within a few short months, a man who was virtually unknown in Israel's religious community began to shake up the nation. Mark 1:28 says, "...His fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee." This happened in matter of weeks. That's serious acceleration.

The word "accelerator" is defined as "A person or thing that causes something to happen or develop more quickly." When the Holy Spirit gets in the driver's seat and takes control of our lives, things happen at a faster pace. It actually takes grace from God Himself to be able to keep up with the Holy Spirit's moving and doings.

Another definition for accelerator is "A device, typically a pedal, that controls the speed of a vehicle's engine." When we are yielded to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit, He not only speeds up God's working in our lives, but He also knows when to slow things down to give us time to rest and be refreshed.

The Place of Still Waters

The psalmist proclaims in Psalms 23:1-2, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters." Still waters is a place where it's not about God doing a lot of external activity around us, but rather a spiritual state where He is moving and working in us. Still waters is where we hear God speak the things that we may have missed in the busy season. Many hear God clearly for others out of their prophetic gifting, but struggle to hear God for themselves. When we are led beside the still waters we begin to clearly hear the answers, directions, and solutions we need for our own lives.

Walking in Step with the Accelerator

We need the Holy Spirit's power to accelerate God's hand upon us so that we don't miss the mark, and so that we walk in lockstep with His perfect timing and will. As the Spirit of God acts as an accelerator in our lives we will see more lives changed, souls saved, deliverances take place, and God glorified in a greater way.

Also, many times we may not be aware that we need a spiritual rejuvenation, and the Spirit of God will hurry us into a time of restoration and rebuilding. Hebrews 4:11 says, "Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest..."

My prayer is that God would now manifest His Holy Spirit in the lives of Believers as an accelerator to accomplish His plans and purposes – unhindered.
