If God is for me . . . who can be against me?

I have been crucified with Christ . . .

Being Crucified to the Law vs Being Crucified in obedience unto the death of self

By Pieter Kirstein

Don't confuse being crucified to the law to being crucified by the Spirit as you follow Christ on the road of the cross in obedience unto the death of self, which is the former way of the life of sin lived in the flesh through the principle of the old earthy Adam.

Paul writes in Galatians 2:16  Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

 17  But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

 18  For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

 19  For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

 20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

 21  I do not nullify the grace of God: for if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

This is in agreement with Colossians 2: 8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

 9  For in him dwells all the fullness of the Deity bodily.

 10  And you are complete in him, who is the head of all principality and power:

 11  In whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

 12  Buried with him in baptism, in which also you are risen with him through the faith of the working of God, who has raised him from the dead.

 13  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has he made alive together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

 14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

 15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

 16  Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

 17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

This "CRUCIFIXION WITH CHRIST" declares that the old covenant is obsolete and a new covenant has been established through the work of the cross. We are saved by grace through faith in His accomplished work of redemption and not by the works of the law which was given to Moses.

The covenant through the Mosaic Law which was given to Moses and the covenant of grace which came through Christ are also revealed in scripture as two women.

One is the bondmaid and the other is the free-woman.

Paul writes about these in Galatians 4:22-26: for it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh (Ishmael); but he of the freewoman was by promise (Isaac). Which things is an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the Mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children (natural Jews). But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all (spiritual children).

And then in verse 31 he declares So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

So the natural Jerusalem is the bond-woman because she is in bondage with her natural children who seek to be justified through the observance of the Mosaic Laws whereas the free-woman is the heavenly, spiritual Jerusalem which gives birth to free children who live by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 12:18-29:  For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

But ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh.

For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.

Jesus demonstrated His love for me through the sacrifice of Himself and now I demonstrate my love for Him through the sacrifice of myself and this is what it means to honor covenant with this righteous God.

In Ephesians 5 we see that our personal relationship with God can be compared to a marriage covenant of intimacy.

Ephesians 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

 26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

 27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

 28  So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself.

 29  For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord the church:

 30  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

 31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

 32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

How did Christ demonstrate His love for us?

By giving himself up completely.

It is a covenant of love, intimacy, oneness and companionship.

John 15:12  This is My commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you.

 13  Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

The best sermons come from the lives of those who follow Jesus as true, humble and obedient disciples.

The new covenant in Christ must be written on the tablets of our hearts as we become one with our Lord in vision, desire and purpose and our deepest desire should be to only please Him in everything we say and do.

Our prayer should be like David in Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

We receive His truth into our hearts because we truly believe in Him as Lord and Savior and then we demonstrate that truth through loving, humble obedience. Obedience is wrought into us as we are touched, changed, healed, delivered and transformed by the power of His love and this is why it is so important to personally go before the Father in prayer to petition that He draws you into His PRESENCE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, because that's the secret place where everything happens.

2 Corinthians 3:17  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

 18  But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

John 6:44  No man can come to Me, except the Father who has sent Me draw him.

May God purify our every motive and cause us, through the transformation work of His Spirit, until we reflect the righteousness, the holiness, the image and likeness of His Son

We are all expected by our heavenly Father to fulfill the law of faith which is found in His Son Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Fulfilling the law of faith simply means that through our trust in who He is and what He has done for us in and through His Son, we can pursue God through an intimate relationship through which we undergo constant supernatural growth as a member of His family and until we discover the destiny that He has for us within the kingdom.

Does not the word declare that faith without works is dead and does it not say that love for God is to obey His commandments?

The Lord is my Shepherd and I am His sheep therefore I choose to trust Him and follow Him wherever He leads.

A very important and powerful scripture is (Rom 8:3) For what the law (of Moses) could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh (our sinful nature) , God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

In other words, we as born-again children of God do not have to live in our sins anymore as miserable sinners and paralyzed in our sinful nature because our God completely destroyed the power of sin through the sacrifice of His righteous Son.

Jesus became sin on that cross that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus and the Father gives us the victory which Jesus accomplished on our behalf in the Person of the Holy Spirit and all that we now have to do is to die to sin through His sanctifying work.

We receive the power and transformation  work of the cross through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, after we have received the gift of salvation. The ministry of the cross is so much more than just a salvation experience.

We see this transformation work spoken of in Ephesians 4:13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

 14  That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive;

 15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:

 16  From whom the whole body being fitly joined together and knit together by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, makes increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

 17  This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

 18  Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

 19  Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto licentiousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

 20  But you have not so learned Christ;

 21  If so be that you have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

 22  That you put off concerning the former way of life the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

 23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

 24  And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

He progressively nurtures us toward maturity and brings us forth as obedient Holy Spirit empowered children manifesting the fruits of Godliness; LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, GENTLENESS, FAITHFULNESS AND SELF CONTROL.

The scripture says in (Rom 8:12) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do put to death the deeds of the body, you shall live.

Live what?

That abundant victorious life which Christ came to give, the resurrection life where we find ourselves seated in heavenly places and reigning over sin.

There must be a death of the old man first, then that death will usher in the resurrection of the new man which is created after God in true holiness and righteousness.

We owe our God the responsibility to die to sin because Jesus opened the way, and we do this by allowing Him to purge our hearts and minds from sin and everything which defiles body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God  -  2 Corinthians 7:1.

This is the only way in which the righteous requirement of the law can be confirmed within the sinner, he must die to sin through his obedient response to the way and the call of the cross, after that salvation is received. We are commanded to answer the upward call of God in Christ, which is the call to maturity and manifest sonship according to Philippians 2 and 3.

This is the righteous requirement of the law that was wrought out in the death, the burial and the resurrection of Christ. The law cried out for justice and it said, Somebody has to die for all of these sins and Jesus did exactly that.

Now there is a cry from the throne of grace for justice to be met in our lives because righteousness and justice is the foundation of His throne. This means that we must allow the same grace that saved us to also change us. The sinner within us receives the death-blow through the power of the cross of Christ by us yielding to the operation and work of the Spirit so that our King might be fully enthroned within our hearts.

We must allow the Lord to dethrone the seed and the seat of the serpent in us because He is now our King  -  Romans 6:12 - 13.

Through our progressive yielding to God's divine influence we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken and as we allow this King to invade every area of our lives, everything not of God will be judged and shaken out of us so that we can come forth a pure, obedient and a holy people.

The only responsibility we owe to the flesh is to give it a decent burial. The word justice means, the use of power and authority to uphold that which is lawful and right. We must allow the King of kings to completely dethrone us and everything within us that stands contrary to His righteous standard.

To be ruled by Christ means that you allow Him His rightful position in your live and that you give up full control of your life to Christ who's blood bought property you become as a born-again person  -  1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

We are not law-less people and sin is exactly that, lawlessness. The throne of God is established in our lives through the work of His cross. We must allow the Holy Spirit to fulfill the justice of the cross in our lives. It would be an injustice to our Lord if we continue to live in our sins after He made the means available to walk in His victory over it.

Or what else do you think God is trying to say through the following scripture?

(Eph 3:9-12)  And to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:  To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in him. We need a clear revelation of His gospel

2Pet 1:3-4 According as his divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Did Jesus die for nothing?

Did Jesus die so that we can just go on sinning and live as we please?

Did our Lord and Savior suffer for nothing when God the Father judged Him in our place?

What testimony is it to God when His people live in defeat after the problem of sin was completely dealt with on the cross?

To be saved by His grace, without works, is one thing, but to walk in His victory over sin is quite another and to do this means that we will have to allow Him to work in our lives as we willingly pursue God through intimate personal relationship.

We must allow the Holy Spirit to inspire and empower us toward obedience. Obedience under the new covenant is accomplished by the Spirit in us when we are fully crucified to this world and to the deception of our own ways and carnal appetites and desires  -  Philippians 3:18-21.

Isn't this what the word means when it commands the disciple of the Lord to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling?”

We must realize and understand that we have a part to play in this relationship and walk.

It is accomplished in our lives through the sanctifying work of His Spirit.

The Holy Spirit just told me this..."as we bore the image of the earthy fallen man, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man (Jesus).

The beautiful thing about the gospel is that this heavenly Man came to conquer the earthy man through a demonstration of divine love and this is exactly the work of God unto sanctification in our lives. He lovingly and affectionately works out that which Christ has already accomplished on our behalf.

His victory becomes a reality more and more as we follow Him out of darkness into the freedom of His glorious light. All darkness in us becomes visible the closer we move to God, then when exposed, it is expelled through a demonstration of His conquering love. His delivering power progressively rescues His children from the grip and the influence of darkness in every area of their lives as they lovingly and willingly submit and yield to the divine influence.

 It is never a matter of cruelty as the enemy would want us to believe but in fact a beautiful demonstration and a rescue from the powers which threatens to destroy us and keep us in bondage.

This is the meaning of the scripture in Romans 8:13 which says, For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do put to death the deeds of the body, you shall live. (Galatians 5:19-21)

God also said to him that it is a much easier thing to the soul and the body for one to follow after flesh and blood [outward appearances] than to follow after the Father and His will [word]. For the way is narrow [contracted by pressure through much trial and tribulation] that leads one to the place wherein they will be found abiding [dwelling] in the love of God-at all cost to themselves. To follow Christ is a walk and journey away from Satans carnal influence into the world and dwelling place of God. If you want to follow the world and its ways then be sure to receive the judgment of the world but if you follow Jesus into the world of God you will receive His forgiveness and mercy.

This is what the Lord said through His servant J Leland Earls about His kingdom, in confirmation to this That which is revealed in the Sermon on the Mount is what I require of those who would enter My heavenly kingdom.

For was it not said, You shall be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect? (Matt. 5:48)

Will I not do a perfecting work in those who are to be received of Me in My own realm?

For I say, except your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the nominal Christian of today, you shall not enter My heavenly kingdom. My kingdom is not for babes and toddlers but for those who have been brought to maturity. For My kingdom is a ruling kingdom, and only those qualified to take a responsibility in My kingdom shall be admitted there to.

Others, though saved, will be barred until they have come into that minimum perfection which I require. I say to you, study carefully the precepts of the kingdom as revealed in the Sermon on the Mount, for therein is the pattern of righteousness which I require.

It is for those who are willing to be My disciples. Others will hear the words and know the outer husk thereof, but only those fully instructed into My kingdom by My Spirit shall reap the benefits of this righteousness of the heart.

Therefore hear My word My people! Will you be among those I am drawing to My mount? And will you sit at My feet day by day and let Me teach you My ways? (end of quote)

In (Eph 2:8) the scripture reads, For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God that no one may boast and so it is only natural to realize that by that same grace we are also sanctified, through that same active and obedient faith.

 You have a race to run so get rid of the distractions in your life. He died to make His people holy and to present us before God without fault and without any spot, wrinkle or blemish. The incorruptible, righteous seed of Almighty God which was planted into us at the moment of re-birth must come to full fruition in our lives and the only way to do this is to fully follow the example of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the One with Whom the Father is well pleased. We are received into His kingdom as we become completely subject to the King.

(Rom 6:1)  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, who died to sin, live any longer in it? So as we can see, we are expected to die to sin and not to live in it any longer because the scripture says that the purpose of His sacrifice is to fulfill the righteous requirement of the law within us.

What is the righteous requirement of the law of faith?

Death to sin by the Spirit of Grace!

(Rom 6:5)  For if we have been united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we should no longer serve sin.

The church of the body of Jesus Christ of Nazareth must realize that they have been greatly deceived by the statement which so many people make, without any fear of God, that we are not under law but under grace without understanding its proper meaning.

By making this statement these professing Christians justify living in sin. This is not the meaning of the text at all. We need to receive clear Holy Spirit revelation on this because the enemy has kept the church paralyzed in this deception for long enough. It is time to embrace the power of His cross in the right way because the sinner in you must die if you desire a glorious entrance, through resurrection, into the Lord's realm of rulership.

To say that that we are not under the law anymore is actually saying that we are no longer slaves to sin.

You become enslaved to sin when you as a sinner live a law-less life.

You are enslaved to sin because you were born into sin and it is your nature to sin.

You end-up in a spiritual prison because you are a law-breaker. You are locked up in prison when you break the law. Lawless people dwell in prisons but righteous people walk in freedom.

When we become children of God, then we are not born into sin anymore, but we become born-again into Christ and into His righteousness.

The Holy Spirit, working through the incorruptible seed of God growing in us toward Christ-likeness and spiritual maturity, empowers us to become partakers of His divine sinless nature because His nature is programmed into that living seed.
