Come Away From Satan's Fleshly Pig-troughs

By Pieter Kirstein

God's calling His people out of the flesh to walk with Him in the realm of the Spirit, behind the veil of carnal fleshly lusts.

1 John 2:15  Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,

16  because all that is in the world,

The Lust of the Flesh

 The lust of the eyes,

 and the pride of life,

Is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17  And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

When we look at what happened in the garden we discover that Satan tempted Eve in 3 areas, the lust of the flesh, the pride of life and the lust of the eyes.

Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat.

1. Was good for food =

  The lust of the flesh

2. Pleasant to the eyes =

 The lust of the eyes

3. A tree to be desired to make one wise =

 The pride of life

The lust of the flesh which refers to sensualism talks about a desire for sensual fleshly pleasures.

The ethical doctrine that feeling is the only criterion for what is good. A sensualist therefore is a person that is preoccupied with the stimulation of the 5 bodily senses.

This is a frightening reality to discover because Satan as the god of this temporary materialistic and fleshly world deceives the masses by keeping them enslaved and subject to their carnal senses.

Ever heard the worldly term, IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT ?

Scary indeed when we consider the preoccupation of society through fleshly indulgences. It is really being imprisoned in a huge carnal maze in which the devil causes his victims, like a dog, to chase their own tails or as the scripture says like a dog returning to its own vomit over and over again, or like a sow that refuse to leave it's wallowing in the mud)

Even the Apostle Peter through his intense admonition by the Spirit commands us as devoted followers in 1Pet 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

He uses the terminology, dearly beloved, strangers and pilgrims because as heavenly citizens and love-slaves of God this world and it's influence should be foreign to us as a people now operating through a contrary nature.

Sensualism presents itself to us in many ways and in many forms and is easily recognized through the works of the flesh recorded in Gal 5 and these are areas through which the enemy operates: Adultery (spiritual and physical. As the called bride of Christ we prostitute ourselves with demons when we sin.

Extramarital sex that willfully and maliciously interferes with marriage relations), fornication (Voluntary sexual intercourse between persons not married to each other), uncleanness (The state of being unsanitary, dirtiness), lasciviousness (Feeling morbid sexual desire or a propensity to lewdness), Idolatry (anything or person that we exalt above being devoted to God) , witchcraft (The art of sorcery to manipulate the fulfillment of ones own desire.

The violation of a persons will, also emotional manipulation or playing the witch with a persons feelings), hatred (The emotion of intense dislike; a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action. Can also result in bringing harm to another even to the point of murder), variance (A difference between conflicting facts, claims or opinions. Discord that splits a group.

An activity that varies from a norm or standard), jealousies (A feeling of jealous envy, especially of a rival), wrath (Intense anger, usually on an epic scale that can result in destruction. aggressiveness aroused by a real or supposed wrong personified as one of the deadly sins), strife (Bitter conflict; heated often violent dissension.

Disagreement among those expected to cooperate. A conflict of people's opinions, actions or characters) , seditions (an illegal action inciting resistance to lawful authority and tending to cause the disruption or overthrow of the government. Violations, a disrespectful act) , heresies (Any opinions or doctrines at variance with the official or orthodox position. Also carnal sinful human reasoning against the sovereign will of God.

The forming of ones own doctrines contrary to the truth revealed in scripture) , Contentions (prideful competition, A contentious speech act; a dispute where there is strong disagreement, being argumentative)  , murders (Unlawful premeditated killing of a human being by a human being, rooted in hatred) , drunkenness ( in a spiritual sense being inflamed with the wine of worldly pleasure, A temporary state resulting from excessive consumption of alcohol, intoxication)  , reveling (worldly partying. Celebrate noisily, often indulging in drinking; engage in uproarious festivities)

Working through the lust of the flesh our adversary keeps multitudes in bondage as he establishes various strongholds in peoples lives. Through our intense need for love and acceptance this empty world can only offer superficial comfort and deceptive temporary satisfaction or pleasure.

Through Satans evil scheme of things he misleads us and causes us to pursue things and stuff we do not even need. We settle for the pig-pen and the fleshly troughs of worldly comfort and carnal indulgences when the King of glory has extend the invitation to feast with God around the table of His heavenly bounty.

There cannot be a greater pleasure; there cannot be found a more satisfying indulgence; and there is no other pursuit more important than the great God Almighty. He is the eternal bread that stills our hunger for love; He is the living water that satisfies our thirst for acceptance and He is the wine that keeps the human soul satisfied and always strengthened through the joy of the Lord.

He is the ultimate experience, the ultimate satisfaction and the ultimate fulfillment to the human soul.

Happy and to be envied is the man that lives a life in pursuit of God because He dwells where no earthly desire can match-up.

God is the most-high which means there can be NOTHING higher than Himself, as He declared to Abraham, I AM YOUR EXCEEDING GREAT REWARD Gen 15:1

Lust defined speaks of a craving, appetite, or great desire for something.

The lust of the eyes can be understood as a lust for gain or being greedy for gain, never being satisfied with what one has and always being enslaved and driven by a desire for more, especially for more than what we need.

You see beloved this world has so deceived us to make us believe that your value lies in the stuff you have and through its many deceptions we come into each others worlds with an attitude to impress. I have seen this even in ministry.

There is such a competition amongst many preachers about who's ministry or church is the biggest or the greatest comparing themselves with one another and these don't even realize that they have been deceived and enslaved by the lust of the eyes.

How shallow are we when we want to place value on people by what we can get from them or how we measure up to them when Christ should be our only standard? This is all devilish and the result of lust in the heart of man.

Lust in the heart is whenever I come into your presence and I want to see how I can somehow use or manipulate you to enrich myself. Whenever I compare myself with you I am in deception, blinded by my own pride and driven by a spirit of competition.

The Lord declared in Luke 12:15 And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.16 And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided? 21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22 And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on. 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are you better than the fowls?

25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26 If you then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take you thought for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith? 29 And seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, neither be you of doubtful mind.

30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that you have need of these things. 31 But rather seek you the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added to you. 32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell that you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.

We need to understand the Lord's heart regarding earthly treasure because most are enslaved by the money god and it is shocking when you think about the reality that money just gives you things and this should never be the pursuit or obsession of a bond-servant of Christ.

By the grace of God I can testify to this because today I truly understand what godliness with contentment means because my heart has been healed, delivered and conquered and satisfied by the all-satisfying love of God.

A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions rather his life should be enriched through the eternal gain of godliness

CHRIST-LIKENESS) according to 1Tim 6:3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine, and doesn't consent to sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, 4. he is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word battles, from which come envy, strife, insulting, evil suspicions,

5 constant friction of people of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. Withdraw yourself from such. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly cant carry anything out.8 But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.9 But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.12 Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

We must understand that the doctrine of Christ transforms us to become like Christ.

It can therefore be clearly seen in the above text that those who are in pursuit of riches have been led astray from the faith and has become, like Judas, sons of perdition. We are servant to the master we obey and our devotion becomes divided through the love of money.

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

The lust of the eye is also described by the Lord in Matt 6:23 as having an evil eye.

Jesus said, But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Deut 15:9 Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you.10 You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to.

11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land. Here we can see that when the love of God takes money from you to help the needy, it is to multiply your increase.

Prov 28:22 He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye, and considers not that poverty shall come on him.

The Lord wants those He has blessed with abundance to be a river of His blessing to those in need as is written in Prov 14:31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors Him.

Ps 37:25 I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,  nor his children begging for bread. 26 All day long he deals graciously, and lends.  His seed is blessed.

Prov 19:17 He that has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has given will He pay him again.

James 1: 27  Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

When the Bible speak of godliness with contentment it is talking about us finding satisfaction in godly character because the word godliness signifies godlikeness and as God's children it is our purpose and our goal to become like Jesus, free from greed and fleshly lusts.

Jesus is the most joyful, content and righteous Person that has ever walked this earth and when He came here in the flesh His pursuit was not earthly treasure but the hearts of His children.

Jesus said to me the reason why He lived such a simplistic selfless-life here on earth was to change the value structures of men in that He introduced himself as the real treasure.

Our heart's pursuit reveals what we truly value.

He came into this world knowing that man's standard of value was rooted in material gain and that is why He rebuked the Pharisees in Luke 16:14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him. 15 He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

The lust of the eyes promises fulfillment through material means. Our brokenness and need for love and acceptance cannot be healed or satisfied by gorging ourselves with carnality.

When a man desires a thing too much, he then becomes uneasy. A proud and greedy man never rests, whereas he who is poor and humble of heart lives in a world of peace. A fleshly man is quickly tempted and overcome in small, unimportant evils. His spirit is weak, in a measure carnal and inclined to sensual things, he can hardly abstain from earthly desires.

Therefore it makes him sad to sacrifice them; he is quick to anger if reproved. It is vanity to follow the lusts of the body and to desire things for which severe punishment later must come. It is deception to love and pursue the sinful pleasures of this life and not to look ahead where eternal joy abides. It is far better to suffer a while here on earth in denying our carnal lusts and then enjoy lasting freedom, than to rebel against the discipline of the Spirit and then suffer eternal shame.

Often recall the proverb the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. Try moreover, to turn your heart from the love of things visible and to bring yourself to the things invisible. For they who follow their own evil passions stain their consciences and lose the grace of God.

Matt 18:1 In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?2 Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in their midst,3 and said, "Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.4 Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

We must become like innocent children again and learn to delight ourselves in the Lord our God and be satisfied with what we have because a child finds contentment and satisfaction in the simple things of life. We don't need all the stuff that we flood our lives with because the more we have, you more distracted we become.

The next arrow of deception in Satan's arsenal is the sin of pride and o how we just enjoy the praises, the exaltation and the recognition and even worship of those around us. Hollywood's red-carpet-entourage of the self-life within fallen man.

Rejection is the root of performance, we want to perform in society for fear of rejection. The world around us create for us their molds of acceptance  to which they want us to conform.

In other words if we do things their way, behave in a certain way and dress according to the latest fashion, wear our hair in a certain style, listen to their music, watch their ungodly movies, play their video games or go to their worldly parties even talk a certain style then we will fit in and be accepted in the local group, culture or community whereas the word of God which accords with godliness clearly teach us in 2Cor 6:14 Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity?

Or what fellowship has light with darkness?15 What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?16 What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.17 Therefore,  Come out from among them,  and be separate, says the Lord.  Touch no unclean thing.  I will receive you.  18 I will be to you a Father.  You will be to me sons and daughters,   says the Lord Almighty.

Why do we want to fit in with the world when we are presented with the amazing opportunity to become the people of God, a holy nation and His royal priesthood?

How can I settle for less when I have discovered the absolute best in Him and love walk in constant fellowship with Him far above the destructive desires of a fallen world.

Why do I want to hang out with the world, gorging myself in the fleshly pig-troughs of Satan when I can always dine with my King?

I found the following about this topic on www.gotquestions.org

The "pride of life" is a vain craving for honor and applause.

The arrogant boasting which constitutes the pride of life motivates the other two lusts as it seeks to elevate itself above all others and fulfill all personal desires. It is the root cause of strife in families, churches and nations. It exalts the self in direct contradiction to Jesus statement that those who would follow Him must take up their cross (an instrument of death) and deny themselves.

The pride of life stands in our way if we truly seek to be servants of God.

It is the arrogance that separates us from others and limits our effectiveness in the kingdom. The pride of life comes not from the Father, but from the world. And, as such, it is passing away with the world, but those who resist and overcome the temptation of the pride of life do the will of God lives forever. (End of quote)

The pride of life talks about the boasting of who I am, what I do and what I have with a motive to try and impress. It's really the display of the vanities of the fallen nature of the serpent.

It exposes the corrupted trinity of fallen man: ME, MYSELF AND I.

It is all about me, what I want, how I see things, my flesh intellectual opinions and how I feel, whereas the new order of things in the life of the Spirit declares: It is what God says, what God wants, how God sees things and how God feels.

He created man and He knows what is best for man and we are called as followers of Christ to submit to His order and way of doing things because this is what constitutes righteousness in the heart and life of the true believer.

Idolatry is the "i am" in the place of the "GREAT I AM" and this causes one to fall into the sin by which we idolize ourselves and our own desires, our flesh ways and opinions above the ways of God.

When you place the I am of man in the place of the GREAT I AM then we become worshipers of the god of self.

Self in man is the principle of sin, we sin because we yield to that which self desires. The principle of Satan is self-exaltation so we see that the self in man is the fruit of the seed of the serpent. While self is present, pride will be present because pride is the nature of self.

The only way to get rid of pride is to lay the axe to the root of "self" by applying the power of the cross of Jesus Christ by the working of the Spirit.

Only God has the power to work the power and the victory of the cross into our surrendered lives. The opposite of pride is the divine virtue of Godly humility and humility is a fruit of the Spirit that speaks of Spiritual maturity.

The pathway of death to self is a journey with the Lord through the personal wilderness of trying circumstances.

It is a season in which God works the humility of His Son into our natures. It is a season of breaking and remolding. It is a season of encountering the selfless nature of Almighty God. It is where we discover exactly what Jesus meant when He said, "Whosoever desire to be My disciple let him deny himself, take up the cross and follow Me”.

He meant exactly this; Will you still follow Me if everything in your life happens exactly the opposite to that which your fallen flesh desires it to be?"

Galatians 5:24  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

God takes us through circumstances for a season contrary to our expectations.  He does this to confront our fallen nature and selfish desires. He does so to break down our pride, our vanity and our ego because in Christ you will find no such evils.

God's nature is love, joy, peace, patience,  kindness,  goodness, gentleness, meekness and self-control. He does so to crucify our flesh with it's passions and desires. Jesus through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God and His followers are called to do the same. It is through a season of humbling experiences that we are brought to the end of ourselves but it is also an amazing experience through which we learn and discover the stupidity and futility of all fleshly corruption and where we are brought onto the all-satisfying love of God and sweet intimate fellowship.

It is a humble love but also the most liberating love. It is a divine love by which we discover the immense wealth of an intimate, focused relationship with God because we are stripped of foolish distractions.

It is a season in which we are stripped of all the carnal desires of the sinful flesh and where we are set free, healed and transformed into the likeness of the God who delivers us by the judgment of love.

God's selfless self sacrificial love is the exact opposite of fleshly lust. It is a burning living passion and desire for God by which we are completely liberated from destructive patterns, desires and behaviors. The power and the force of the love of God causes you to soar like an eagle on the winds of the Holy Spirit. By the way of the cross we are brought into the freedom of God's Spirit. When your heart is conquered by the love of God then this world will hold very little attraction to you.

Physical abstaining from food is also a very powerful spiritual discipline that can assist in crucifying fleshly passions and demolish strongholds and destructive habits, because the principle of sacrifice releases the power of the cross, by the Spirit's operation, into our lives.

It's a very powerful weapon in our heavenly arsenal. I personally have fasted much for years on end.

Throughout the Bible we find examples of people who fasted. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to implement fasting in your pursuit of God and to reveal it to you as a powerful weapon. There are actually 3 "when's" in the gospel. When you give, when you pray and when you fast. Matthew 6.

 David says in  Ps 35:13 my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting;

Yes fasting humbles the soul before God and as we know the Lord gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of grace and He willingly comes to the aid of those who choose to humble themselves.

Through His ministry in our lives we receive the finished work of the cross of Christ through His sanctifying work. When we read that we are commanded in Phil 2:12 to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling then we discover that it means, by revelation of the Holy Spirit, that the work that was accomplished by Christ on the cross must now be wrought out in our lives by the operation of the Spirit.

In obedience to the call of the cross of Jesus we must therefore embrace His work in our lives through a fasted-lifestyle. Remember what we read in Rom 8:12 Therefore, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.13 For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The discipline of fasting causes a putting-to-death-effect by the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the repentant follower and it will result in a holy consecrated life, in the new order of the Spirit, through the ministry of the cross.

From the beginning of my personal mentor-ship of the Holy Spirit in my life, God clearly and distinctly showed me how the power of the cross, operating through the discipline of fasting, destroys the carnal fleshly mind of man.

This mind of the flesh stands in enmity with God and must be destroyed because it's ways and desires are contrary to the ways of the Spirit and it has a rebellious will of its own and as we read that they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.(Rom 8:5-8)

It was as if I could see through the eyes of the Spirit how He slowly but surely was in in the process of breaking down and breaking through the strong-hold of my sinful mind.

One day as I was starting to break through, I heard Him say, WELCOME TO MY WORLD speaking of the life of the Spirit, the world in which God operates.

Living a fasted life also means that we follow the Lord away from the corruption, the influence and the distractions of this fallen world, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

A scripture I love is Jas 1:27, Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and "to keep oneself from being poluted by the world."

This is in accordance with Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

How will we ever become this glorious church when we wallow around in the pig-pen of worldliness and carnality?

2 Corinthians 10:3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

 5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

The Lord said to me the other day that you are crucified with Christ when you are no longer influenced by the world around you.

These 3 ungodly worldly passions of which we have been speaking about, must be rooted out from the heart of the true and sincere follower of Jesus Christ because they are completely contrary to a heart that is in love with God.

The choice is simple when we consider that it is through these 3 deceptions that the god of this world destroyed our lives and kept us in bondage and we need to take up arms and demolish and expel them all from our hearts and lives by embracing the circumcision of the cross.

These worldly desires must be rooted out by the power of the Spirit through the operation of the principle of the cross. Fasting and prayer is a very powerful weapon that can be used against these strongholds.

When you apply the power of the cross through a fasted-lifestyle it will bring down principalities over your life and this I have personally witnessed with my own eyes.
