The River of God – A Kingdom River

By Denise Sylvia Bekker

The River of God is the River of Life. It is a constant flowing, ever increasing, flow of life and life abundant. The smaller streams or rivers that flow into the river of God I  likened (Eph4:16) to a whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, which causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

As this Kingdom River flows there is a constant renewing in the Spirit that takes place. Righteousness and Truth are the true essence of God’s mighty rushing waters (Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Mt5:6).

The River of God has many prophetic symbolisms:

1). One being the River of Blessings of God. Rev 22:17. ‘And He showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of god and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

2) The Kingdom River flows directly from the throne of God. (In the midst of the street), relates this Holy River to a type of Holy Highway. As a natural river has its path (highway) in which it flows, winding and twisting, taking the way of least resistance. We as believers in Christ need to be fully immersed and filled by the Holy Spirit. Rom8:14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. The more fully we are led by the Holy spirit, the more completely we will be obedient and be conformed to His holy standards. As a river is sensitive and forms itself along its way, in like manner we need to be sensitive in urgings and promptings of the Holy Spirit throughout our walk in Christ. We serve in the newness of the Spirit and have been made free in the liberty and freedom of Christ by the law of the Spirit of life.

3) The River of life proceeding from the very throne of God and of the Lamb, can also symbolize the river as the carrier of the Glory of God. The Glory exudes from the throne of God. The Glory of God is a substance of weightiness, it is heavy, holds power, wealth, authority, and a key ingredient of magnificence and excellence. This sounds like a majestic river in its full manifestation: a] weightiness in full – a river filled to capacity, teaming with life.                     b] holds power – as it flows on course, great power of its presence overflows and exudes life more abundant.

c] wealth – constantly prophesying, speaking into the spiritual realms, the Spirit of Prophecy continually being released.   d] authority – as a river winds along its way, and forms territorial boundaries, so too does the Kingdom River. Its a river that not only forms boundaries but also has the ability to consume existing boundaries for receiving the inheritance of nations as God promised Ps2:8. This authority is a manifest authority, an authority that is rich in the manifest Glory of God.

4) The River of God can also prophetically symbolize a God of Warfare. Isa59:19. ‘So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in, like a flood the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.’

So the Highway of the River of God has many facets and manifestations, and is clothed in the manifest wisdom of God. And it is laden with royal treasures, salvation, righteousness, mysteries of Christ not yet revealed, and that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph3:18 ,that we may be complete in Him.

this is so beautiful and such a testimony to the Lord's healing power and sanctification through our suffering. Much of my walk with Christ is similar to yours.
